About the Design

Here are the graphs of two essential functions of trigonometry, sine and cosine (often shortened to

sin and cos).

In trigonometry, Sine = Opposite / Hypotenuse and Cosine = Adjacent / Hypotenuse for right triangles. Trig was my absolute favorite part of math when I was younger. Graphing sine and cosine equations results in beautiful sinosodial waves, also known as sine waves. These mathematical curves show a smooth repetitive oscillation. Occurring frequently in nature, the sinosodial wave is seen in light waves, ocean waves, and sound waves. These trigonometric functions are used for pure and applied mathematics, physics, engineering, and other fields. In the equations shown, A = amplitude; B = cycles from 0 to π; D = vertical shift; and C = horizontal shift. Sine and Cosine waves are almost identical except that the cosine wave has a horizontal shift.
