In this whimsical toile de jouy pattern, a group of recognizable heroes and villains from a beloved 1980's television show search through the pastoral landscape of Eternia for a lost sheep. Duncan, the Man at Arms, gazes out over the landscape, bewildered, his horn hanging limply by his side. Nearby, Prince Adam (in full He-Man character) guards his own ovine friends fiercely. Cringer, in Battlecat mode but without his armor, roars ferociously, keeping his flock tightly collected to his side. Castle Grayskull looms menacingly in the center (I never quite understood why He-Man lived in this monstrous structure to begin with but YOLO, I guess) as Skeletor, ram's head staff in hand, laughs maniacally (or just gleefully, or perhaps he merely chuckles) while his flock of horned sheep meander around the copse of acacia trees in which he is illustrated. Finally, Orco saves the day, gesturing towards the missing ram in the probably futile hope that someone will notice. He Man was my favorite cartoon growing up, and continues to be a recurring motif in our household and family life. On my thirtieth birthday, I bought a bunch of He-Man episodes, kept my daughter home from school, and watched TV all day. It was the best. I designed this toile in the hope of having someone sew me a dress and my husband a work shirt from it. I shall leave it here for as long as possible to share it with all of you.
