A visit to a Japanese antique shop that specialized in fabric and clothing was an eye opening experience. I have always loved repeating patterns and had studied Japanese patterns in books but this was my first time to see so many amazing patterns actually in use. I was hooked. Since this time, I have been playing with floral and geometric patterns in this style. I have played with ukiyo-e designs as repeats with subjects like cranes, waves, and koi fish. I don't know if there's any interest in this style from a commercial standpoint but I can tell you that there's very much an interest from me in the style because it's absolutely beautiful.
