About the Design

’Halloween Lumberjack Grunge by Su_G' (https://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/5684274): Channeling the grimy flannel, 'boho-hobo', 'smelly-caveman', 'ratty rec-room', 'Seattle chic' grunge look. © Su Schaefer 2016 ~ with thanks to Sean Conaty for his excellent plaidmaker software (https://www.plaidmaker.com/). Printed well on basic cotton as shown in the thumbnails (double click for a clearer view). See more 'boho-hobo' designs by Su_G. (https://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/su_g?shop_selection=tag&tag=boho-hobo) This classic orange, black and white flannel plaid with grimy textural overlays, channels the grunge look of the early 1990s, described by Rick Marin in a NY Times piece in 1992 as: “the smelly-caveman look”, “ratty rec-room chic”, with “the boho-hobo staples of second-hand attire” including “ripped jeans, untucked flannel and stomping boots”. The components of the look were cheap, durable and timeless – rather than chosen for their high fashion statements. "It wasn't like somebody said, 'Let's all dress like lumberjacks and start Seattle chic!'" according to Jonathon Poneman (a founder of Sub Pop - credited with inventing ‘grunge’). “Grunge: A Success Story” by Rick Marin, published November 15, 1992 in the New York Times. (https://www.nytimes.com/1992/11/15/style/grunge-a-success-story.html) See more plaid designs by Su_G.
