About the Design

’I'm a Lumberjack - are you ok? by Su_G' (https://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/7869298): Channeling the grimy flannel, 'smelly-caveman', 'ratty rec-room', 'Seattle chic' grunge look. © Su Schaefer 2018 ~with thanks to Sean Conaty for his excellent plaidmaker software (https://www.plaidmaker.com). See more 'lumberjack' designs by Su_G. (https://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/su_g?shop_selection=tag&tag=lumberjack) This classic deep dark red, Bavarian blue, black and white flannel plaid with grimy textural overlays, channels the grunge look of the early 1990s, described by Rick Marin in a NY Times piece in 1992 as: “the smelly-caveman look”, “ratty rec-room chic”, with “the boho-hobo staples of second-hand attire” including “ripped jeans, untucked flannel and stomping boots”. The components of the look were cheap, durable and timeless – rather than chosen for their high fashion statements. "It wasn't like somebody said, 'Let's all dress like lumberjacks and start Seattle chic!' " according to Jonathon Poneman (a founder of Sub Pop - credited with inventing ‘grunge’). “Grunge: A Success Story” by Rick Marin, published November 15, 1992 in the New York Times.
