About the Design

’Victorian Error by Su_G': (https://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/7941676) post-modern, deconstructed damask, my entry in Spoonflower's 'Victorian Era' Design Challenge. © Su Schaefer 2018 This was my process: you know how damask seems to be made up of all those curvey and curly shapes? This is how I imagine it would look if you pulled them all apart, coloured each one separately, and then threw them up and let them land in a random arrangement... hence 'deconstructed'. I made the individual shapes with a dressmaker's tool called a 'French curve' [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_curve]. Of course pattern will out no matter how random process seems... and this is 'mirrored' on two axes, so quite strongly patterned. See more 'quirky' designs by Su_G. (https://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/su_g?shop_selection=tag&tag=quirky) See new designs by Su_G. (https://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/su_g?sort=new) Original: Oil on paper, basic repeat. [Currently set @ Fabric: 166 ppi; Wallpaper: 175, Gift wrap: 175 ppi; can be resized: Spoonmail me or comment below before ordering] [ Proofed on fabric @ 166 ppi // was 166 for Contest viewing + to generate the Kimono mockup // Filename: Victorian_error_mirrored // "With a balance of orderliness and ornamentation, a home in the United Kingdom during the Victorian Era reflected a prim and proper lifestyle while also celebrating excess. The rise of wallpaper, including elaborate floral patterns in primary colors, paired with bold prints throughout an entire room, proved that “less is more” was not the motto during this period of time." ]
