About the Design

'LARGE Molten gold with impurities by Su_G' (https://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/939027): Molten gold with 'impurities' - the impurities that give gold its non-gold colors. 'Earth Science' contest entry. © Su Schaefer 2012 So called 'impurities' - which can themselves be precious metals - give gold its non-gold colors, like red gold (copper), white gold (palladium - among others), green gold (silver - among others) and so on. Pure gold never tarnishes and is supremely malleable (an ounce can be stretched into a thread more than 50 miles long) and because of its softness it is usually 'alloyed' or mixed with other metals to strengthen it and make it more durable. I grew up on a gold and copper mine and this metal has never lost its fascination for me. Proofed on several fabrics: colors deepest on cotton sateen. This is the LARGE scale version; 'Molten gold with impurities, small' is a SMALL scale version. (https://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/940482) See other impasto designs by Su_G.
