Tolkien imagined a heraldic device for the hero Earendil (the Mariner) as on a field of azure an argent star with six points, containing a smaller six-pointed argent star on a field of azure, with the star surrounded by six orbs of argent. The star and its azure field are surrounded by a circle of argent, which is centered on a diamond field of sable, with four-pointed comets or stars in the sable field in each of the four cardinal directions. I have this symbol repeating as a pattern with this design.
