tides.
This shows how moonrise and moonset align with sunrise and sunset throughout the lunar cycle, for a specific spot on earth. The gray semi-circles indicate the daily cycle of the moon, the yellow-red the run, and the blue the tides. For instance, at the new moon, the moon rises and sets at the same time as the sun, and at the full moon, the moon rises at sunset and sets at sunrise. The high tides occur when the moon is at its highest point (and at the exact opposite side of the earth).
