A unique portrait by the famous Renaissance artist Raphael of a famous Catholic saint and martyr Catherine of Alexandria. The original work was painted over by a very disturbed artist that changed the unicorn (a sign of chastity and purity) into a medival torture device called a breaking wheel, which was a part of the legend of Catherine's persecution and martyrdom. In the 1930's historic artists were taking part in a restoration for the painting and were able to remove the over painting and restore the original work to canvas. For the half sized sized version and for more work from this era, see the SalvageScapes collection RENAISSANCE ERA
