Welcome to PlanetAZ, where we celebrate the lovely colors of life in the Sonoran Desert. This is the soft creamy-white version of Melanie’s original pattern, Mariposa Jubilee. Abstracted multi-colored butterflies, hand-drawn and inspired by the 19th century woodcuts of Kanzaka Sekka, flutter gracefully as clouds. Butterflies are diverse in the Sonoran Desert, numbering over 250 species. These delightful insects serve as important pollinators; larvae are an essential part of the local food chain. Abundance of butterflies is a good indicator of ecological health. Butterfly survival is threatened by anthropogenic habitat destruction and widespread pesticide use. This pattern elicits the joyful lightening of one’s heart in a garden full of butterflies. It would be my pleasure to adapt this design to YOUR personal color scheme, or to adjust the scale so it will be perfect for YOUR project. These desert-inspired designs are a joy to create!
