floral exudes warmth and history.
This vintage autumnal design is inspired by 1930's kitchen tiles, wildflowers, and the Blue Ridge mountains. I think about autumn as a time of gathering closer, of collecting in the warmth of the kitchen, of pies and stories and deepening connections (despite currently living on the west coast--HA! I based the colors on the Spoonflower East Fork Challenge colors, and as a long-time East Fork hoarder, I photographed my favorite coffee mug to create the morel glaze speckles included in the design. The design has a timeless element, my daughter insists that it is "super seventies" while I was really feeling its 30's / early 40's vibes. It is all grandmotherly kitchen, comfort, and bringing the gentler aspects of the outdoors in--a gathering of not just people but place and time. I have created a series of classic patterns to coordinate with this one, including stripes and checks/plaid in the same tones. All of these patterns highlight the *work* of art: the ceramic glaze speckles and remaining texture of oil pastel in this floral; brush strokes in the stripes and similar patterns.
