The crane has traditionally been considered a sign of long life, victory in battle, and good tidings, and so as a pattern is used for happy occasions such as weddings and births. The bird is even considered a messenger of the gods. Various patterns exist, such as the two-standing-cranes pattern (the birds in their mating dance) and those with the birds flying or alighting. Cranes are sometimes used with turtles or the pine-bamboo-plum combination. Occasionally, they are featured in more elaborate patterns depicting traditional stories involving cranes. Cranes on figured paper (chiyogami) also form a pattern. a design that draws inspiration from the rich heritage of Japanese traditional patterns. It celebrates the timeless beauty and elegance found in various aspects of Japanese culture, such as nature, art, and symbolism.
