About the Design

Dots mark the placement for original feedsack-logo recreations, sized to accent the lids of your

canning jars.

Mason Jar Toppers are a simple way to finish your jar gifts or canned goods. (Of course, these designs also make great herbal sachets, patches, cheater cloth, tiny gift pouches ... or even just an unusual word-art design!) Square designs are slightly rustic and -- unlike round jar toppers -- waste-free. To use them on jars, just cut the squares along the narrow line in the border. Use pinking shears to prevent fraying (although a few loose threads give a rather nice look, too!). Then, place the resulting square over the round lid of an already-processed jar, before you tighten the outer ring to keep it in place. The inner border of the circle in the design corresponds to a regular-mouth canning jar's rim, while the outer border is sized for a wide-mouth jar -- so this size works fine for both. You'll have a bit of fringe at the corners, which adds to the old-school look of the jar. The Test Swatch size gives you one of each design! A fat quarter will give you at least 20 complete ones. Simple woven fabrics work best for this. We recommend the Petal Cotton -- which, conveniently, is also the cheapest option. You can use a fabric marker to indicate the date of canning right on the label (though we like to label the date separately -- then the topper is reusable!). Using cloth to top the jar looks a bit more traditional than a sticker label, as it's reminiscent of pre-canning methods for jarred/bottled preservation -- and the fabric may play a role in wicking moisture to prevent the rings from rusting, making them last longer. While a round piece of fabric will give the jars a frill, these practical squares give just a bit of exposed edge -- a little less country, a little more raw-edged minimalist. ----- Colors: Petal Pink, Feather Grey, Statice Rose, Cactus Green, Aloe Green This design will color-coordinate with any other Loch Nest Farm design that lists the same colors in its description.
