between stars shaped as crosses.
This subtle and subdued orange pattern has eight-pointed stars (octagrams) surrounding eight-spoked wheels, recalling the Sumerian Ishtar, the Hindu Lakshmi, and the balance and yin-yang nature (as these stars are essentially overlapping squares). The circular pattern in the middle of the stars seems like a dharma wheel, representing the eight-fold path (right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration). The cross patterns between the stars each have five crosses within. The colors have a natural rusty orange color, typical of the hematite that was in the granite, or ochre. I made the pattern from a high resolution scan of a granite pebble my grandfather had polished when I was a boy.
