About the Design

My entry for April 2022 Garden Party Challenge - featuring red, black and white ladybugs with pink

echinacea flowers, all hand drawn digitally.

Did you know that there are over 5000 species of ladybugs? ! In this design I represent only a few, including Sub-Coccinella 24-punctata, the lady bug with the most spots, a red one with black dots. White ladybugs are the rarest and there is even one that has a heart-shaped spot! In addition to the white, red and black ladybugs in my design, there are pink, grey, orange and yellow ones. Some have stripes instead of spots! Or one could say that the spots have "run together." The number of spots on a ladybug help figure out what species it is. The number of spots ranges from zero to 24. Sometimes the spots run together. Also, when it is young there are generally no spots at all. The spots develop as the ladybug ages. Their lifespan is 1 to 2 years. This jumbo size of Ladybug Reunion is super for wallpaper or large home decor items such as a tablecloth or duvet cover. As the collection develops it will include various sizes as well as coordinates. There will also be versions of the design on different backgrounds. copyright -- Mary Beglau Wykes - April 2, 2022
