About the Design

Originally created for the Ignite challenge, this is based on the phoenix-like conservation success

story of the Crowned Ibis of Sado Island, Japan.

The arrangement is inspired by antique kimono designs, particularly the auspicious traditional symbolism of pine, bamboo, and plum (Sho-chiku-bai) together with cherry blossoms and flowing water to represent rejuvenation and resilience. The idea of the phoenix and Toki connection came from this lovely article: https://phys.org/news/2022-06-modern-phoenix-bird-brought-extinction.html
