About the Design

'Hemp leaf pattern pearls on greige by Su_G' (https://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/2331512): oil paint impasto pearls on greige linen-weave - oil paint dots straight from the tube, arranged in the traditional Japanese pattern (Asanoha). © Su Schaefer 2014 See more hemp leaf pattern designs by Su_G. (http://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/su_g?shop_selection=tag&tag=asanoha) Printed beautifully on basic cotton as shown in the thumbnail (double click for a clearer view). In the old days in Japan, master artisans specialized in painting this design on fabric. I wanted to try the same thing: it is much harder than it looks! Asanoha mon (The Hemp Leaf Pattern) The mon of the Maru-ni-Asanoha family represents a stylized hemp leaf pattern. According to some, the plant symbolizes the power of growth (hemp being one of the most vigorous annual plants) and probably for this reason, the pattern is often used on babies' kimonos. Original: Oil on paper, Japanese mon (Asanoha), basic repeat. [Currently set @ Fabric: 225 ppi, Wallpaper: 150 ppi] [ RESET to 225 from 400 ppi - Feb 2018 // Proofed on Fabric @ 400 ppi ]
