After seeing photos of all the beautiful, intricate metal and glass lamps sold in the bazaars in Marrakesh, I knew I wanted to feature them on a pattern. This one started out simpler, but those Moroccan shops are anything but! I love how the layers of these lantern illustrations evoke those shops and the way the light fixtures are hung at different heights and extend deep into the darkness of the shop. The rich jewel tones are a nod to the super bright pigments of Morocco, but still maintain the mostly gold and silver tones of the punched lamp shades. This is one of my favorites!
