find the woman's face in the cave formations?
The Inner Space Caverns are located just north of Austin, Texas, in the USA. On the ceiling of the caverns, I saw what appeared to be a woman's face in the rock formations of the ceiling. As I created a simple watercolor based on this phenomena, it seemed the title "Inner Space" was very suitable, so I retained it. Symbolically, the painting represents that inner space where we are alone, that is sometimes filled with frightening thoughts, where we can feel vulnerable and unprotected. As I was working on the design, the story of La Llorona (the crying woman), a Mexican folk character, also came to mind. This folk tale tells of a woman who drowned her children in a fit of jealousy when she saw her husband with a younger woman - and now her ghost wanders endlessly along the river, searching for them. If you would like to read the legend, you may click here. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Llorona) You will find other colorways and sizes of this design in the complete Inner Space collection. (https://www.spoonflower.com/collections/277945) This strikes me as a fabric very suitable for Halloween, or a Gothic outfit or wallpaper, because of the woman's eerie face - and yet her face is observant only to those who look closely. If you would like the design in a different size, or in a different format, just let me know. I would be glad to scale it to your specifications. Should you make any purchase, know that it is greatly appreciated - above all because I know someone has connected with my work. Happy sewing! Copyright Mary K Wykes 4-21-16
